Mazagon Activities Costa de la Luz Spain60 km south-west of the city of SEVILLE begins the area known as Doñana, a wetland reserve of great importance protected by International Environment Laws. Thousands of birds from the north of Europe, such as geese, as well as flamingos, spend the winter in the National Nature Park of Doñana and in spring its marshlands burst into life.
The EL ROCÍO - ROYAL HUNTING GROUNDS - PORT OF THE VOYAGE OF DISCOVERY - ATLANTIC BEACHES horseback route runs through this ever-changing, heterogeneous habitat which transforms according to the seasons.
The itinerary takes rider over sandy ground, across country, and along deserted trails. It features varying landscapes of woodlands, marshlands, dunes and deserted beaches. Of the 130 km travelled over the 7 days, only 150 m are asphalted roads. The departure point is EL ROCÍO in Huelva, known as an International Horse Village, a title conferred on it because of the singularity of its sandy roads and its houses, which all have stables. It is acclaimed world-wide for its pilgrimage in honour of the Virgin of El Rocío.
Andalusia has the best coast in Europe for practising water sports. Good weather, spring-like temperatures, excellent winds and all kind of sea conditions and currents have made Andalusia a paradise for all types of water sport and recreation, with special mention to windsurfing - unquestionably, the sport that has given most fame and international renown to the region around the town of Tarifa, a mandatory meeting place for every European windsurfer worth his salt - as well as sailing, canoeing and water skiing.
Thanks to the lay of the land, its rich fields and its abundant flora that are full of life, Andalusia has become an ideal playground for hunting various species. Hunting activities are carried out with great respect toward nature. Hunters´ sensitivity in terms of the environment translates into selective hunting which helps maintain and improve the species. The results of this are visible in the breeding of animals to reintroduce, regenerate and maintain the different ecosystems. More than 17% of the Andalusian territory is classified as protected areas. For this reason, Andalusia is not only rich in the number of species but also boasts great density within each individual population.
In addition to these natural hunting advantages, many other complementary activities are also available, giving way to high-quality tourism, including monumental routes to towns and villages with rich artistic treasures, knowledge of local customs and people, enjoyment of gastronomy, etc. Hunting plays an important role when offering the visitor a wide variety of possibilities.
In Andalusia, as in the rest of Europe, an extensive range of instruction is provided in the various riding disciplines: from BEGINNER´ CLASSES FOR CHILDREN to JUMPING CLINICS taught by Olympic riders and DRESSAGE COURSES. These standard fields are complemented by other more unusual options, such as POLO and COWBOY STYLE RIDING
However, in Andalusia riding is much more than just a sport or an indispensable tool in the handling of fighting bulls; it is an art, cultivated through the ages to form part of our cultural tradition. In the horse - rider binomial, a communion rather than a union comes about, and this communion developed the traditional Andalusian VAQUERA style of riding, which has been passed down from generation to generation to the present day. ANDALUSIAN or CLASSICAL dressage courses can be taken in conjunction with HAUTE ÉCOLE courses, capitalising on the SPANISH HORSE´s aptitude for this discipline.
