Mazagon Information Costa de la Luz Spain
The coast of Huelva, which bore witness to the departure of the ships that were to discover the Americas more than half a millennium ago, today boasts an important marina. The beach in Mazagón enjoys a privileged climate throughout the year and shares the characteristics that have given the Costa de la Luz its reputation. The sea offers 36km of uninterrupted fine, white sandy beaches on shores that are illuminated by a permanently blue sky. These beaches are surrounded by a beautiful coastal pinewood, with excellent opportunities to go fishing, either out on a boat or from the shore itself, to practice water sports or simply to relax and sunbathe. This beautiful beach’s marina boasts modern facilities and a privileged location. Indeed, this port is located in the centre of the great coastal arc of the Gulf of Cadiz, halfway between the Portuguese Algarve and the Strait of Gibraltar.
It has berths available for 500 craft, a number which is set to increase, besides offering all the standard marina services whilst, round and about, the summer nights take on an unusual atmosphere for the quiet Huelva coast. Directly opposite the marina, you can make out the islands of Saltés, Enmedio and Bacuta, which make up part of the Odiel Marshes Nature Reserve where the largest colony of spoonbills in Europe assembles along with countless other species of birds. The reserve can be visited; trips on foot or by boat can be arranged with the Environment Agency of the Junta de Andalucía.
A town offering a variety of services is situated above the rough dune-covered slope that runs parallel to the Mazagón beach, enveloped in an unbroken pinewood. The beautiful Parador Nacional hotel is of particular note, hidden as it is between the green pine trees and set up like a balcony looking out onto the sea.
This huge beach stretches over 5.5km from the port of Mazagón in the direction of Huelva. It is a very quiet area that is reached from the road that goes to Mazagón by crossing several built-up areas featuring chalets with gardens. The sand is fine and white. From the beach you can make out the breakwater that leads to the Punta Canaleta lighthouse. If you are observant you will see the birds fishing insatiably.
